A tale of redemption and duty – Mana Seraph is host to the Spirit of the Phoenix; a creature entwined within her being that is far from human understanding.
The ghastly process was carried out by the tyrannical empire of Fusion. However, Mana was not fused with the entire Spirit, as a daring rescue by the tribe who worship the Phoenix interrupted the procedure.
Fusion retaliated by giving their General, Qwuiff Lavation, the means to hunt Mana and the Spirit across the lands of Airone. Qwuiff quickly began eradicating any nation who stood in the way, not just for the empire but for his own glory as well.
Protected by the Pheo Tribe and her vigilant Guardians, Mana is bound to the servitude of the people. Hidden in the treetops somewhere on Airone, the tribal village had done well to elude those searching for it.
It isn’t until a failed kidnapping brings the entire situation into focus. Blooded and broken, a mercenary called Dark employed by Fusion is captured. He reveals himself as a heavenly creature widely acknowledged as an Angel. Although the creatures are known as swords to the Holy Sorceress it’s quickly discovered Dark has fallen far from his heavenly duty. Shocked at the depth of corruption by Fusion, Mana encourages Dark to redeem himself and serve by her side as a Guardian to fight against the empire once and for all.
Reluctantly accepting this proposition, Dark embarks on a path of redemption. This not only positions him against the Fusion Empire but also inches Mana further towards an uncertain future.

HUNT FOR THE PHOENIX is an epic fantasy novel and the first in a series. This action packed adventure includes a Masquerade Ball (‘the floor was awash with sequined dresses and feathered masks…’) and a spectacular wedding, but there is something for everyone in this page turning fantasy. Enjoyed it immensely.
Hunt for the Phoenix is a gripping story following Dark’s journey, the Empire’s agents & Mana. I was quickly drawn into their world and the distorted destiny of Mana, a gentle character being used for the Empire’s twisted needs. The attention to detail in the emotions and actions of characters is striking leading you to hope only for the best for Mana along with the fate of their world. The story builds up to what I hope will continue to be a captivating series of adventures for Dark, Mana and all of the characters of Fusion.
I read this book on recommendation as it is not my usual genre at all and, like the previous reviewer, I wasn’t disappointed. I personally always judge a book by how much the story pulls me in….this book pulled me right in so that I felt as if I was there with the characters. The plot is really well thought out with a few great twists and it kept me captivated from beginning to end. I can’t wait for the next installment!
